Another Adrenal Insufficiency patient has died from inadequate care.

I’m sad to report that a fellow adrenal insufficiency patient has died recently due to inadequate care from hospital staff who did not immediately administer the stress dose steroids her body needed.

Her death never would have occurred if they had administered the steroids IMMEDIATELY. Instead, they insisted on making her wait while they ran tests to determine whether or not she was really in a crisis. She died while waiting. You can read more about it here.

I also have adrenal insufficiency, and I experienced the same inadequate care back in 2018. I also could have died if I had not gone to another ER for help.

In memory of my fellow AI patient, and in hopes that helping educate people on the existence and seriousness of this condition might prevent more senseless deaths in the future, I am sharing this article I wrote after my adrenal crisis where I was turned away by ER staff. Please take a moment to read it and consider sharing it, especially if you are friends with ER or nursing staff who may not know how serious this is. Here is the article I wrote.

⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ Always remember this- giving the stress dose injection of corticosteroids when it isn’t needed is not dangerous. Not giving the injection when a patient is in crisis can be fatal. ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️

Thank you. ❤️

  1. I don’t know why they didn’t give you the steroid that you needed. Or why they completely refused to treat the patient who died. Those selfish pricks! So used to treating a patient like they don’t know anything and then when the patient /does/ know something, they’re treated like a hypochondriac! … ><

This is the time that things ought to go to the news so /they/ can make everything explode like it should. There is no excuse for letting a patient die just because of some useless test they're required to give to push the price of treatment up.

Why can I, someone with Multiple Sclerosis, get a shot of corticosteroids when I ask because of the feeling of a spell coming on, and then someone who is going to die without it has to deal with all this idiocy about things? (I am fully aware that what I take is a much lesser dose so they may feel more comfortable. But there's still no excuse whatsoever to not give someone what they need when there is no bodily effects if someone /doesn't/ need it.)

      • Me too. It would get more information about Adrenal Insufficiency out and about, too. I just cannot see why someone like me can get a shot when it’s just an MS spell and then someone who may /die/ can’t get one at all. It’s insanity!

(I hope I left your comment Liked. It’s a bit difficult to tell at the second for me. ^^; )
